When we were invited to a 21st birthday surprise at Extreme Tactical Airsoft, we knew we were in for an adventure. Little did we know that this experience would exceed all our expectations and provide us with stories we'd discuss for years.

They walked us through the rules and safety protocols, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and prepared for the adventure.

As we donned our gear and received our airsoft weapons, there was an air of anticipation and thrill. Divided into teams, we strategised our moves, ready to tackle the various game scenarios laid out for us. The diverse playing fields, ranging from urban setups to woodland battlegrounds, offered a challenging and exhilarating experience.

The initial trepidation quickly gave way to pure adrenaline as the games commenced. The sound of airsoft pellets whizzing past, the thrill of a well-executed team manoeuvre, and the occasional sting from a close encounter made for an intense yet enjoyable time. We were completely immersed in the experience, forgetting everything but the game and the camaraderie it fostered.

One memorable highlight was a particularly intense match where the birthday celebrant was the Zombie, who had to turn us humans into zombies, too. The cheers and laughter that followed were a testament to the spirit of adventure and the bonds forged during our time at Extreme Tactical Airsoft.

Despite a few stings from the airsoft pellets, we all walked away with smiles and stories to share. The day concluded with a celebration that was as joyous and spirited as the games themselves. We toasted to friendship, new experiences, and the fun that only an airsoft adventure can deliver.

It is an absolute hidden oasis between the Hangklip Mountains and the coastline. Here, you’ll find Pringle Rock Distillery, which is something unique to the area (in my opinion). There’s no faffing about when you make a booking; it’s easy and peasy. You simply connect with Monique +27 82 541 5944 (WhatsApp only), and she will guide you.

Once you’ve confirmed your booking, you will receive a scheduled time and location in Pringle Bay for you to jump into the Pringle Rock minibus. No, you can’t drive with your transport, but that makes this experience a treat. Driving through the gates, you’re left in awe of the natural beauty surrounding you. Absolutely breathtaking… They’ve embraced nature with their architecture, and you can see and feel it wherever you are on the property.

From your feet hitting the ground as you leave the minibus, you receive an informative guide from Leigh Elves. He takes you down memory lane, sharing how this family-run distillery was “born.” And although they’ve received a tad of ‘hostility’ from surrounding peeps, they believed in what they’re creating. I (personally) am so relieved they did because this would have been a significant loss for the Hangklip Tourism industry if they hadn’t persevered with their dream!

Leigh Elves, who had worked in the engineering industry for almost 40 years, crafted all the distillery tanks, and his son helped him do so, making this even more remarkable. The tour is an insightful experience; you can feel the passion driving this venture. They share their journey from beginning to end with nothing left out. There’s no hidden space. It’s all open and inviting from entering to exiting the premises.

Taking a seat at the tasting table, you’re warmly greeted by Monique, who takes over the tasting experience. The huge barn-style doors open behind her, with a majestic mountain backdrop. But you may wonder what makes this gin-tasting experience something unique. Well, except for all the awesomeness I shared before the tasting started, here’s why it is.

It’s most definitely not your everyday tasting experience. The distillery offers three exceptional gins with unique flavors and stories. The Pringle Rock Distillery has crafted Rockjumper Gin to honor and celebrate our resident Rockjumpers, highlighting these captivating and charming birds to increase awareness. As you are introduced to each gin, Monique shares the spices that are used in each (almost like a show-and-smell) experience. There’s a story behind how each one has been crafted.

If you haven’t had the privilege to visit them or have been in two minds (perhaps listening to naysayers), I can tell you that you’re missing out! What I can tell the negative ninnies out there is this:

At their distillery farm, they are completely off-grid and dedicated to eco-friendly practices. They generate their power through solar energy, and their water is natural mountain water sourced from a well on the property. They’re dedicated to safeguarding and improving their natural environment and endeavour to operate in the most environmentally sustainable way possible.

So instead of throwing a hissy fit about whether this is a suitable business for the area or any other nonsense someone can think of as a reason, go see for yourself, and who knows, you just might have an insightful cultural adventure. I know I have and definitely will again soon!
